The future of hotel technology will be presented at a special show in Dubai this year.

Between 8 and 10 June, the Hotel Show 2008 will take place at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre and will explore the latest technologies designed to provide hotel guests with the maximum comfort and convenience, Trade Arabia reports.

Maggie Moore, the director of the exhibition, said that modern hotels have a responsibility to provide support for the electronic gadgets that many guests bring with them.

‘With the proliferation of mobile devices, personal digital assistants, portable DVD players, mp3 players and smartphones, hotel guests often arrive with all the technology they need,’ she said.

‘The question is, are all hotels keeping up with their guests’ expectations with in-room facilities as well as adequate back office technology?’

Ms Moore said that, by providing technological support – such as universal adapters to enable guests to plug in mobile devices and docking bays for smartphones and pocket devices – hotels can feel like a home away from home.

Electronics company Samsung is currently manufacturing customised 70-inch LCD screens that will be used at the Burj Dubai, the skyscraper that is expected to be the world’s tallest man-made structure when it is finished later this year.

Arabtec Construction Co. LLC, a wholly owned unit of Dubai’s Arabtec Holding PJSC, won a 360 million dirham ($98 million) contract to build a 421-room four star hotel by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Co.The building of the hotel at the Abu Dhabi exhibition centre will be completed by August 2009, the Dubai-based company said today in a statement posted on the Web site of the Dubai Financial Market.

A Middle Eastern real estate company have asked British firm Hyder Consulting to design a structure that will be twice as tall as the Burj Dubai - making it the world’s tallest tower.

Speaking at a construction forum in Abu Dhabi last week, Andy Davids, Hyder Consulting’s director of structures, told newswire MEED that the tower would be located in the Middle East region.

The real estate sales in Dubai during the week peaked at Dh2.28 billion, according to Dubai Land Department. Property transactions include land, villa and apartment sales on Feb 17, 18, 19 and 20, 2008.

The total value of plot sale deals was the highest on Wednesday, Feb 20, 2008. The amount transacted during the day was approximately Dh1.13 million.

The total value of land sales during the period was Dh2.17 billion, while apartments recorded a total sale of Dh98.2 million and villas Dh9.5 million. The highest land sale was recorded at Emirates Hills First (Dh380 million) followed by Al Hamriya (Dh350 million). The combined value of mortgages during Feb 19 and 20 was Dh998.07 million.

UAE. The Investment Corporation of Dubai wants to spend more time going through the books of bid target Spanish real estate firm Colonial, and has extended the due diligence period to 27 February, the sovereign wealth fund said on Thursday.
